Rocky

Rocky ...quite a personable and adoring dog! Just that simple; we made a great choice in giving this little gem a forever home. One never knows when selecting a pet, especially when their history and people-trust are not known. But, when we first met this little guy at Peggy’s foster home, my wife knew he was one that we had to invest in. Going in to it, we knew he wasn’t fully house trained, even at his age of 6 years. But with patience and positive reinforcement, close monitoring and within a couple weeks we had an attentive dog who does his ‘business’ outside and has already learned a few tricks. He can’t replace the other beautiful Chihuahua’s we had, that passed-on due to old-age…I think they will forever bring a tear to our eyes when we think of them. All dogs are unique in personality, and Rocky has all the personality anyone could want….he is smart as a whip and extremely fast too  based on coloring, floppy ears and agility, we think he is part terrier. This guy sure doesn’t miss much…and quick with his reactions…holy moly, he is likely lightening. Rocky has brought with him life, enthusiasm, entertainment, and devotion, as only a dog can. What a wonderful puppy he is – he travels in the car so well and while he doesn’t initially like to go for walks, he prances along so well when over the initial hesitation.

Rocky has obviously had previous household exposure….we got lucky selecting this little guy. Two of his traits are that he audibly thinks he should be fed people food from the super table and he knows that it is warm and soft under the bed quilt, a great place where he hides first thing in the morning and doesn’t stir for anything. On the people food thing, we are still working on training him that his dogfood is his and our food is ours. Sooo, habits have started; some he taught us and some we taught him. All in all, he is firmly entrenching himself in our home and our hearts…he has quickly become a thrill to have around, to meet us at the door after work, to play catch with his favorite toys, to race around on the lawn. On the latter, we were told he came to us from California and when the first bit of snow arrived here, he wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with it. Out for a pee in the morning,… until he hit the end of the sidewalk and s-n-o-w – a quick and hasty retreat when he touched the snow, as if to say that he and snow have an agreement to never mix. Is he ever in for a rude surprise when it gets cold this winter. We have already bought him his own small wardrobe to help him with his next surprise…-20c !

Overall, Rocky sure is a pleasant, intelligent and playful ‘keeper’ in our life. I encourage anyone giving thought to adding to your family with a forever home for a dog, to let a little warmth in to their home, if at all possible. We sure are thrilled. Attached are a few shots of this guy at play and learning how to beg for a treat from one of our others….he loves to jump, chase and tease….his toys are definitely his and he guards them diligently. What a treat he is to have around to guard our home.

Cheers

Glen

Tony came from Cabo San Lucas (SP) Mexico with Julia. I met him at her place while she was fostering him and instantly fell in love with him. He has also received a last name. Sanchez, so he is always referred to as Tony Sanchez. He has settled into our pack with other dog siblings. He makes us laugh regularly. He thinks he is a lot bigger than his six pounds but that's to be expected with a chi mix. He loves to go to the dog park, snuggle with anyone who is warm (especially if there is a heated blanket involved). He recently has also learned to play fetch and loves small sized balls. Unfortunately, he often needs to wear a sweater or coat because of his extremely short hair. I usually get a dirty look and he won't move. But then he gets over it and off he goes. Happy as a lark. We sure love him and I must say he has a special spot in my heart! Thanks, Heather

I adopted Tika (formerly Violet) on May 18, 2017. She’s from California, she was on the streets with her puppies when you guys found her. Tika was spayed and sent straight to Calgary. Naturally, she was a bit out of sorts from all that. Her foster mum was so great and encouraging. Even though Tika wouldn’t come near me at first, her foster mum assured me she just takes a bit of time to warm up. It was about 6 hours after she got to my house before she curled up on my lap and it was an instant connection. She has done well in the snow, she doesn’t really like her jacket. As soon as I take her jacket off, she rips around the house, it's really funny. I absolutely adore her, and I love her so much! She has so much personality (as you can see from our pictures). She definitely loves to snuggle, and sleep under the covers. She is really good with other dogs, and she loves cats. She knows a lot of tricks now, she has recently learnt how to roll over without any help from me. I’m a proud mummy! Thank you so much Little Mutts Rescue for everything you do and for giving me Tika. "Rescue dogs aren't broken, they've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don't pity a rescue dog. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness by your side" Quote unknown Thanks again,  Justine & Tika

Joey (schnauzer x terrier from Mexico) came to his forever home in Lethbridge on April 9, 2016.  We are so grateful to Little Mutts for giving Joey a chance and being our gateway to gaining such a perfect furry family member.  His were the first pair of sad eyes that I saw on the website and I knew instantly that we had to apply to adopt him, but we were leaving on a family vacation so had to wait until after Easter before bringing any animal into our home.  As fate would have it, he was still available when we returned to Canada and he was home with us the following weekend!  [Many thanks to his Auntie Kat {foster mom} for caring for him in the meantime!]  He was timid of several things when we first brought him home, but he settled in quickly and attached to each member of his human family (though he's really a mama's boy, when it comes down to it!)  We truly feel that it was meant to be - he's definitely one of us!  He sleeps with each of our children when they go to bed, and ends up at our feet when it's our turn to settle in for the night.  He has a best friend two doors down and has playdates several times a week to wrestle, but also loves his down time to just enjoy being a pampered pooch. Thanks so much, Little Mutts!

Chico has been a joy to have in the house.  He has an adorable personality that goes with being an adorable little dog.  His background must have included some really good training because he is good at following commands when he wants to and there are treats involved.    We love this little fellow and don’t mind too much that he barks a lot, will bite people who come in the house, and tries to attack dogs outside no matter what the breed.  Quite a little character.  But we love him to bits.  He is so affectionate with us and gets lots of affection back.   We feel very fortunate that we found this little fellow and wouldn’t trade little Chico for anything!  He may not be a dog for everyone but he sure is a dog for us!   Bridge

A quick update on Miss Harriet (formerly Bell). She has been such an amazing addition to our family! She has become best buds with our other dog Huey, she follows him everywhere! She is so good on walks now, she comes when called (getting treats of course) and has regular off leash walks at a park daily. She doesn’t stray far from myself or Huey but wants to greet each person and dog that she meets. Harriet LOVES my 3 children! Everyone is greeted each morning with a face full of kisses and her little tail wags so fast. She has had a few accidents in the house but few and far between. We absolutely love her to bits! I know she needs a haircut but I can’t bring myself to cut those eyebrows!😍 Thank you to Little Mutts, we feel very lucky to have Harriet in our lives.

Hello to the amazing Little Mutts Rescue Team!!  Just wanted to give you an update on little Miss Ellie Mae aka Miyoko who we adopted October 18th, 2018.  Ellie Mae has been with us for just over one year and has settled into her new fur-ever home very well.  She knows this is her turf and protects it when necessary – all 7 lbs of her.  Ellie is such a cuddle bug and loves to watch tv with me or get under the covers when we go to bed.  From the start she had great puppy manners and we have both figured out the signs to let her outside to do her business. She enjoys her walks and treats like; cucumbers, cauliflower, carrots, apples, cheese and just about anything that falls on the floor.  We have been trying to encourage her to play with the numerous toys she has but she would rather just cuddle up and sleep.  I certainly don't mind.  Thank you again for your patience in finding me the perfect match – Ellie Mae.  She continues to bring me joy, laughter, love and lots of kisses.
